From Lockdown Hobby to Lichfield’s Creative Hub
They say every stitch tells a story—and ours began during the quiet of lockdown.
When the world slowed down, we found ourselves reconnecting with the things we loved. For Dagmar, that meant dusting off an old passion. A brand-new sewing machine quickly reignited her love for sewing and hand embroidery. Before long, she was creating cushions and soft furnishings, which we took to local classic car shows once restrictions lifted. The response was overwhelming—requests for new designs and materials started rolling in, and with that, the seed of an idea was planted.
With backgrounds in education and retail, we knew how to teach and how to serve—but now we had a new mission: to turn a heartfelt hobby into something more. And so, in April 2022, The Fabric Vault opened its doors in the beautiful, historic city of Lichfield.
Today, our shop is a vibrant, two-floor haven for fabric lovers, stitchers, knitters, crocheters, and crafters of all kinds. On the ground floor, you’ll find shelves brimming with handpicked fabrics in a range of colours and textures, alongside trusted haberdashery brands like Gutermann, Prym, and DMC. Everything you see, we’ve chosen ourselves with care and quality in mind.
Upstairs is where the magic really happens—our dedicated craft space is home to sewing machines, overlockers, and embroidery machine, all available to book for in-store sessions or to rent for home use.
But The Fabric Vault isn’t just a shop—it’s a community. Well-being and connection are at the heart of everything we do. From creative workshops and beginner-friendly classes to drop-in craft chats over coffee, we’re here to support, inspire, and share the joy of making together.
