Issue 02 – February 2026
We hope that you enjoyed reading our first newsletter last month. It felt like January was going on and on and on and then February has arrived and to us it feels like it whizzed by – even though it seems like 2026 is the year of rain with hardly a day passing where we haven’t seen any wet stuff fall from the sky!
February may be the shortest month with the fewest days, but it hasn’t felt any the less busy for us at The Fabric Vault! Our lessons are now back in full swing and its been amazing to see so many smiles as students come down the stairs following their lesson and proudly show their finished items to us in the shop. So far, we’ve seen quilts, cushions and pyjama bottoms being finished during lessons. We’ve also had another busy time with our table runner project – but more about that later.

On the 8th February, we held our first “Sew Relaxing” sewing retreat day at Lea Marston of the year. It was amazing to see a variety of projects bought along to be worked on. John’s favourite was a HUGE quilt that was bought along by Emma – it was lovely to have the big space to be able to lay it out fully and step back to take in the amazing work on the quilt and what made it even more special was that this quilt had been started quite a few years ago by Emma’s mum, and Emma is now finishing it off (on the photo is the back side of the quilt).
After last months newsletter, we’ve been telling our customers about our make of the month. If you haven’t heard yet, this is where we invite you to send in pictures of items that you’ve made with material purchased from our shop. This may be bags, quilts clothing etc.
Well this month, we couldn’t choose just one “make of the month” we’ve picked 2!

The first is from Alison who made some lovely pyjama bottoms from our brushed cotton with a super cute elephant pattern on.
The second is a gorgeous blouse made by Julie from our 100% cotton fabric called Wave Green from Makower.

If you’d like to see your makes featured, please email them to John: [email protected] or WhatsApp them to us at the Fabric Vault.
We have a wide array of lessons to cater for form the absolute beginner to the experienced sewist. You can find more details of lessons by popping in the shop or checking out the lessons section on our website; Book Now

As mentioned later in this edition of “From the Vault”, our “Common Threads” project draws to a close and this finishes with a special event in Lichfield Cathedral in March. The table then leaves Lichfield in April and moves to its next venue. However, we are hoping that the runner will be on display in Lichfield Cathedral during June – more details to follow.
They do say “that as one door closes, another opens” and it seems the same for projects, in that when one project comes to a close, another begins.
Well we are extremely pleased to be able to let you know that we have another great project planned where we will work again with Lichfield Cathedral and involve many members of the community. We will be able to give more details on this soon, but we can tell you that we are soooooo excited by it!
As always, our Sewing Retreat Days of 2026 continue – our next one is our first 2 day event which will be on Sunday 12th and Monday 13th April. Best of all, we have managed to secure a discount for you if you decide to book both days which makes the 2nd day cheaper! In addition to this, Dagmar has been working hard on the booking system for this on our website so that it allows you to book and pay in instalments for the Sew Relaxing days rather than have to pay the full amount in one go – please look on our website for further info and as we speak, there are still a few spaces available! Sewing Retreat Days
January saw the deadline for the “Common Threads” table runner arrive, despite this, Dagmar and her team of sewists still managed to find room for some squares that arrived late – in fact they extended the runner by quite a bit to fit them all on! We will have final statistics soon of how long it is and how many individual squares made up the runner.
It has been out on display a couple of times on the table during February whilst the last finishing touches have taken place. However, the most exciting news is that there will be a blessing for the Table Runner in Lichfield Cathedral on Thursday 26th March. We don’t currently have all of the details but we will post more info on our social media pages as will the Cathedral as soon as they are released. Also, everyone who made a square will receive an invite via email or phone call (where we don’t have email).

Thanks for reading, we hope that you’ve enjoyed this edition of “From the Vault”
