About this Lesson

Do you take your sewing machine and supplies to classes, retreats, or workshops? If so, you’ll know that transporting an iron safely can be a challenge.

In this practical sewing course, you’ll create a clever Iron Caddy that not only carries your iron but also unfolds into a useful ironing mat when you need it.

Students can choose to make either:

• A large Iron Caddy suitable for a standard household iron
• A small Iron Caddy suitable for a mini craft or travel iron

Once opened, the caddy provides a convenient pressing surface, making it ideal for sewing classes, retreats, workshops, and sewing groups.

During this course, you will learn:

• Quilting techniques
• Working with stabilisers and specialist materials
• Accurate construction methods
• Applying binding neatly
• Topstitching techniques
• Creating a practical project designed for regular use

The Iron Caddy is made using specialist heat-resistant materials, allowing you to safely transport your iron after use. Please note that although the materials are heat-resistant, they are not completely heat-proof, so care should always be taken when placing the caddy on surfaces.

A walking foot is required for this project.
