About this Course

Have you always admired patchwork quilts but felt unsure where to start?

Patchwork from the Beginning has been designed to guide you through the essential techniques of patchwork and quilting in a relaxed and supportive environment. Starting with simple squares and rectangles, you’ll gradually build your skills as you learn a range of traditional patchwork blocks and techniques.

Throughout the course, you will create:

Along the way, you’ll learn:

  • Accurate cutting and measuring
  • Rotary cutting techniques
  • Quarter-inch seams
  • Pressing for patchwork
  • Working with squares and triangles
  • Block construction and assembly
  • Quilting techniques
  • Binding techniques

🧵 Rather than jumping straight into a large project, you’ll build your skills one step at a time, gaining confidence with each new technique before moving on to the next stage.

By the end of the course, you’ll have a solid understanding of the core skills used in patchwork and quilting and the confidence to continue creating your own projects at home.

You will need the following fabrics for this course:

  • 1 metre of background fabric (white, off white or black)
  • ½ metre each of six coordinating fabrics. We recommend:
    • Light, medium, and dark shades of one colour
    • Light, medium, and dark shades of grey

Backing fabric and wadding will be required from Lesson 8 onwards. We will discuss suitable options during the course.
