About this Lesson

The Dresden Plate is one of the most famous patchwork designs and has been loved by quilters for generations.

In this creative course, children will learn how to make their own Dresden Plate design before turning it into a finished project they can use and enjoy.

During the course, children will learn:

  • how to cut and piece Dresden Plate sections
  • how to join shapes accurately
  • patchwork and fabric piecing techniques
  • appliqué techniques
  • fabric placement and colour selection
  • tips for neat sewing and pressing

Once the Dresden Plate design has been completed, children can turn it into:

🧵 A cushion

🧵 A tote bag

🧵 Or another decorative project if they would prefer

🧵 This is a wonderful project for children who would like to explore patchwork and quilting while creating something colourful, personal, and completely unique.

As part of the lesson, children will be able to choose fabric for their project from our shop, which is included in the course price.

By the end of the course, children will have completed their own patchwork project and gained valuable experience with patchwork, appliqué, and sewing machine skills.

Important Information for Children’s Lessons

🧵 Children aged 8–12 years old must be accompanied by an adult during their first lesson. Please book one space only and let us know that an adult will also be attending.

🧵 If your child is older than 12 but may require additional support during lessons, please contact us before booking — we will always do our best to help and discuss suitable arrangements.
